Steel Wire Mesh Reinforced HDPE Pipe (SRTP pipe) is a new type of composite pipe that combines the advantages of steel and thermoplastics. It uses high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as a matrix, reinforced by a mesh framework formed by spirally twisting high-strength steel wires. A high-performance adhesive resin tightly bonds the steel mesh to the inner and outer HDPE layers, creating a sandwich structure that combines both rigidity and flexibility.
Structural Features: Three-layer composite with complementary advantages
Inner and Outer Layers:
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is used, offering corrosion resistance, low-temperature resistance, and strong chemical stability. It isolates the steel wires from the conveying medium, preventing chemical corrosion and extending the pipe's service life.
Reinforcement Layer:
High-strength steel wires are coated with adhesive resin and spirally twisted to form a mesh framework. This provides axial and circumferential tensile strength, significantly improving the pipe's pressure and impact resistance. Its allowable stress is more than double that of ordinary plastic pipe, allowing it to withstand higher pressures and external shocks.
Adhesive Layer:
A high-performance modified adhesive resin achieves a molecular-level bond between the steel mesh and HDPE, eliminating the interfacial delamination risk common with traditional composite pipes and ensuring coordinated load-bearing between the layers during long-term .
The HDPE wire mesh skeleton provides axial and hoop tensile strength, with an allowable stress more than double that of ordinary plastic pipes. This allows it to withstand higher pressures (nominal pressure range 0.6MPa-1.6MPa, with some petrochemical industry standards reaching 10MPa or even 20MPa). It is suitable for high-pressure applications such as long-distance buried water supply and gas transmission. The HDPE matrix completely isolates the steel wire from corrosive media, offering excellent resistance to chemicals such as acids, alkalis, and salts, and a service life far exceeding that of ordinary steel pipe (up to 50 years or more).
